DSNMC Summer Picnic and Field Day

DSNMC Summer Picnic and Field Day on June 13

 

Kick off summer with us at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg at our annual Summer Picnic! EVERYONE is welcome! We'll have games, activities, lunch, snacks, AND we'll launch the 2026 Step UP Walk! Interested in lending a hand? Sign up to volunteer .

 

NEW for 2026! In partnership with Open Door Sports , DSNMC will host a field day for kids ages 5 to 18 prior to the picnic! Participants will rotate through a variety of adaptive sports stations led by trained coaches, with activities thoughtfully designed to meet a wide range of skill levels and support needs.

 

What: DSNMC Summer Picnic + Field Day
When: Saturday, June 13; (Field Day 9:30-11:00, Picnic 11:30-3:00)
Where: Bohrer Park; 506 S Frederick Ave, Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Cost: $12 for ages 13 and up, $7 for ages 5 to 12. Ages 0 to 4 are free. Financial assistance is available .

YOUTH PROGRAMMING SURVEY (AGES 5-13)

We are gathering feedback from families to help shape future youth and parent/ caregiver programming  for families of children with Down syndrome ages 5–13. This brief survey is available in both English and Spanish. As a thank you, families who respond by June 5 will be entered into a raffle to win tickets to:

  • DSNMC Summer Picnic on June 13
  • Sensory-friendly performance of Pete the Cat on July 12

We appreciate your feedback and partnership as we continue building meaningful, inclusive programming for our community!

Brooke Levey speaks at Partners for Justice Conference

Brooke Levey (second from left) speaks at Partners for Justice Conference

DSNMC Executive Director Brooke Levey served as a panelist at the Partners for Justice Conference on May 20, speaking on The Threat to Disability Rights in Public Education . The panel discussed how changes to the United States Department of Education may impact students with disabilities, low-income families, and minority communities, with a focus on funding, advocacy, and legal protections. Panelists emphasized the importance of collaboration among public service organizations, advocacy groups, and school systems to ensure all students’ rights and educational needs continue to be supported.
