Kit Fleming
Transitioning Youth and Adult Intern
Kit Fleming is a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, where she achieved a dual Bachelor’s degree in Politics Philosophy Economics (PPE) and Sociology. She is passionate about working with underserved populations to foster community, create opportunities, and pursue social justice. These values have led her to pursue a career in social work.
Kit’s career goals are grounded in her experience as a sibling and caretaker to a young adult with Down syndrome. During her time at UMD, she provided social, educational, and residential support to students with IDD in the inclusive higher education program TerpsEXCEED. This involvement sparked a specific interest in working with neurodiverse individuals as they navigate the transition to adulthood. She deeply appreciates DSNMC’s focus on self-advocacy, community-building, and education in this process. She hopes to prepare young adults with Down syndrome for experiences like inclusive higher education and independent living, as well as increase availability and access to these experiences.
Kit is currently interning with DSNMC’s Transitioning Youth & Adult program, where she is excited to put her experience and passion into practice. In her free time, Kit enjoys staying active and creative– most recently through weightlifting and crochet!
