Each day leading up to World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, we've been highlighting a wonderful member of our community as part of our 21 Days of Ability campaign. Today we also feature Derek, age 11!

"I am a 5th grader at Diamond Elementary school. I have a passion for books. I mostly enjoy reading informational texts about animals, specifically elephants. I am able to differentiate, recognize and name most animals with shared characteristics such as penguins. I ask to go to the zoo every day :) I am also very good at putting puzzles and Legos together. I spend hours figuring them out and don’t give up until a project is finished. The well-being of my family, especially my older sister Ivana, is my highest priority. They say they are enlightened by my presence in their lives!"
