Amuthan Kannan
Board Member
Amuthan Kannan has been a member of Down Syndrome Network of Montgomery County for more than 20 years and became a board member in 2021. Before joining the board, he had been a Co-chair of Special Education Advisory Committee at Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) for over 8 years acting as a liaison between the MCPS special educators and parents of special education students. This gave him the opportunity to work with different families in Montgomery County and understand the various issues they face in educating their loves ones with disabilities. For many years now, he has also been on the board of OASIS, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life for young adults with disabilities.
Amuthan is the father of two boys, Hari and Jay. Hari is the oldest and was born with Down syndrome. Amuthan is passionate about advocating for inclusion of people with disabilities in our community. He holds a master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UNLV. He has been an IT Manager for a nonprofit in DC for over 26 years.
