Theresa Brogan
Board Member
My name is Theresa and I am excited to be a part of the DSNMC Board. I have been involved with DSNMC for years, participating in Step UP walks before they were called that, when our families walked through neighborhoods in Kensington. I have lobbied on Capitol Hill and in Annapolis, I am on the Board of St. Joseph’s House in Hyattsville, and I am the Self-Advocate Ambassador for the Catholic Coalition for Special Education.
I was fortunate to be fully included throughout elementary school and high school and earned my post-secondary certificate from Vanderbilt University’s Next Steps Program. While I was at Vanderbilt, I had internships with different offices in the state government as well as in a family and childcare center. I earned an Apprenticeship Certificate in Early Childhood and had my first paid job senior year in the family and childcare center. I lived independently in Nashville in an off-campus apartment. The one thing I learned while I was at college is not giving up and being true to myself. There were bumps along the way, but they helped me to grow.
I now work at the National Children’s Museum in Washington DC. I have been there for over three years now and I love it there.
As part of the leadership committee for DSNMC’s Self-Advocate Community Network, I am particularly interested in working on social and learning activities for adults with Down syndrome.
